Phones, unlike diamond engagement rings, are not usually designed or intended to last a lifetime, several lifetimes even. Somehow I can’t imagine diamond phones being handed down from generation to generation. I suppose “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” could translate to “diamond encrusted mobile phones are a girl’s best friend”. Are diamond phones set to upstage diamond engagement rings in the 21st century?

No, clearly not. A mobile phone, diamond encrusted or not, is a functional device integral to a society that values convenience, instant gratification and is constantly on the go 24/7. The latest ‘hot’ technology and fashions are outdated within a matter of weeks. By contrast diamond engagement rings have a history dating back to the Middle Ages and earlier.

Diamond engagement rings have long been a symbol of everlasting love and commitment. Diamond engagement ring styles cross generations. They are not simply fashion accessories subject to the latest fad. The ancient tradition of giving and wearing diamond engagement rings is still alive today precisely because beautiful diamond engagement rings do not lose their allure.
