The cut relates to how well the diamond will sparkle. The quality of the Diamond Cut determines how well light travels through the diamond. As you can see in the image below if the cut is poor the light will escape and not bounce back out as it should. If the quality of the cut is high your Diamond Ring will sparkle beautifully. The highest grade of cut, according to the GIA scale, is; Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair and Poor. Ideal diamonds are given an Excellent or Very Good cut grade. At 1791 we only sell Diamond Rings with Excellent and Very Good Cut. We would advise against buying a diamond ring below these grades as it will be less luminous. The clearer and more colourless the diamond, the higher the grade. Diamond ClarityDiamond Clarity is measured by the number, size and placement of inclusions (flaws). Inclusions can be tiny fragments of other minerals, empty spaces or scratches inside the diamond. Clarity grading is done with a 10x magnifying loupe. Diamond CaratDiamond Carat Size refers to diamond weight;1carat weighing 0.2g. When choosing carat weight it is worth considering the following; ring design, finger size and most importantly budget. Smaller diamonds can be found quite easily around the world whereas it is the larger diamonds that are really rare. So the larger the diamond, the higher the price per carat. The picture below shows how diamond weight corresponds with size for Round Brilliants.
